MMAMELEE.com and TapouT's Continued Positive Influence On MMA

The host of the website MMAMELEE.com, Mike Malast, recently shared how the TapouT TV show and MMA fighter "Cowboy Cerrone" played a role in developing his passion to help fighters and start the website.

This is a great example of how people are inspired by the actions of others and how that inspiration can turn into something tangible and positive.

I have excerpted this part of the MMAMELEE story, below, from a response that Mike Malast posted on my blog there:

"Now I devote my life to trying to help these guys. Back in '06 when I was watching the first season of the TapouT Show and they would drive around pick guys up and take them to their fight and sponsor them, I noticed both the respect the crew, fighters and their families had for the situation and I said to myself these guys have the best job in the world, drive around to fights and change peoples lives and I wanted to do that.

Now I didn't have a clothing line or tons of money so I couldn't help how they could so I started thinking of a way I can contribute.

Years past and in the summer of '08 I bought the domain MMAMELEE.com, no clue why I picked that name it didnt mean anything to me but I bought it because I had an idea for a website where broke guys like myself can find training and sparring partners. So if a guys wrestling is weak he can come on and find the best wrestler in his area and exploit his weakness

MMA became legal in PA February 27, 2009. I worked on the site till May 26th of last year when we launched and in that time while I was working on it, it turned into a social network for everyone to progress not just fighters.

So I started helping guys anyway I could, find them fights, tape their fights (you wouldn't believe how many people never get tapes of their fights, the promoter should give them all copies in my opinion) just help promote them anyway I could. When I launched I was thinking of everyone I knew who was involved with the sport because I wanted to help the people I knew first.

Enter one of my old teammates from mini football the "East Coast Submission Machine " 00Judo, double oh Judo is like 007 in Judo(he hates that name) Jim "The Kid" Hettes.

Hettes was living at this camp training about 2 hours away for the last couple years and that fell through so he moved back home. I let him know about the site and what I was trying to do and he was down with it.

Then 2 months later steps in Cowboy Cerrone, he's looking for some guys to help him get ready for his title shot with Ben Henderson and he invited Hettes and my buddy Derek Leyrer down to live with him during his camp.

Keep in mind that Cowboy Cerrone was the first fighter ever on the TapouT show and that TapouT helped him and that show inspired me to do this and now here he is giving back to us, the thing just came full circle and I truly believe this is destined.

So now Hettes sits 4-0 pro with the biggest fight of his life coming up and Cowboy is going to be there to corner him. I don't think this is just a coincedence.

So when I thought MMA Melee would be helping Hettes it turns out he's such a beast and Hettes really helps MMA Melee. Without his work ethic and winning streak maybe people wouldn't take the site as serious as they should.

Now I devoted my life to helping guys, I do things for fighters over here that really their managers should be doing for them, encouraging them, finding them fights etc. and not because they are fighters because they are men on a mission.

I would want to help people acheive their goals in any profession I just choice to pick one I liked and its starting to pay off.

MMA Melee is full of people trying to accomplish a dream
